Kinja'd!!!

An RWB Porsche isn't something you just glance at. You stare, you examine it, and you have a strong opinion about it, whether it be good or bad. Nakai San dangerously walks the line between sublime and ridiculous with the RWB kit, and he knows exactly where to step.

Now that I've scared the purists off, let's talk design. It's wide, it's aggressive, and it's something I could stare at all day long. I personally prefer the look of the kit when it is molded, it looks much more understated than when the rivets are exposed. It's like seeing a bodybuilder in a suit instead of a speedo. If you use the recommended SSR professor wheels you can have 10.5 inches of wheel up front on a 265 tire and a massive 13 inches of rubber out back on a 335 tire. The specific offsets of the wheels allows for an amazing stance without the need for spacers.

Kinja'd!!!

Speaking about stance, the suspension is a custom RWB coilover kit made by Aragosta. You can run a more conventional coilover like PSS10's, although I'd prefer to let the masterminds at Aragosta tailor the suspension to my car. After all, they've managed to perfect the suspension on the already great R35 GTR.

Kinja'd!!!

An RWB Porsche is made to be driven. The ride height may look low, but believe me when I say these cars are being used how Ferdinand Porsche would have wanted. It saddens me to admit that the few RWB's in the USA aren't being tracked, but Nakai San himself is a testament to the fact that these are still drivers cars. His personal 930 features a full RWB kit and a Miata like weight of 2100 pounds.

Kinja'd!!!

Nakai San started RAUH-Welt, or Rough world, after getting his first car. When he started driving German cars, it transformed into "Sekund Entwicklung (second development) RAUH-welt Begriff" which eventually became known as RWB. Nakai views a persons car as their treasure, and because of that they have to be special. The quality that goes into each car is unreal. Nakai is the only person who does this. You want an RWB kit? Pay the $20k for the kit and Nakai will personally fly out and perform all the labor wherever in the world you are. His work ethic is crazy. He'll complete a car in 4 days, fly to Dubai for another car, and then fly to California to complete yet another car. He'll flawlessly work a 13 hour day making sure your car is perfect.

Kinja'd!!!

"What's the point of racing a car that doesn't look cool?" Nakai asks. Cool is an understatement.

Kinja'd!!!

Nakai refers to his 930, known as Stella Artois, as his first and last 930. RAUH-welt begriff has helped me fall in love with Porsche. I hope to one day meet Nakai and marvel in his work as he builds my future Porsche, which I plan to keep forever.

When i saw my first RWB i literally hung around for like 30 minutes gazing at the massive dish on the wheels

I have yet to see one in person. There's less than a dozen in the US at any given time, and the only one I know of on the east coast belongs to a rennlist member in Florida.

What's the point of racing a car that doesn't look cool

Fantastic quote. To be honest, I kind of disagree. I think racecars look cool, cause they don't care about looking cool, just going fast. But going fast is looking cool!!

I'm not a big fan of most modified cars like the Liberty Walk 458 and M3, but the RWB cars look amazing. This and the Veilside RX-7 are the only modified cars that I would buy.

That's a very good point, and I agreed with you too, until I fell in love with RWB's!

I dream about 288 GTO's. I'll never, ever own one though :(

At least RWB's are somewhat attainable! All in all, if I had my perfect 911 built I'd probably be around the $60k mark.

I wanted to like the liberty walk 458, but seeing them stanced just killed it for me. The Veilside RX7's are awesome but I only like them when they are painted a solid color.

Don't be sad! A widebody 308 looks the same! The GTO was just a factory widebody kit!

And we can get a blower instead of a turbo charger. Cheaper and simpler.

BOOM: kind of a GTO

Great night post for me to read before bed. You've sparked some new interest in RWB for me to look into tomorrow after work. An RWB 993 is one special car that I not only need or want to drive, it is a car will drive one day. It's simply perfect craftsmanship in the form of one man and one man alone; simply awesome.

First thing first, must go by a 930!! :D

Are you on rennlist by chance??

I'm probably going to repost this again tomorrow during the day. I'm glad I've gotten you hooked on RWB's! I'm mainly looking at 964's because they're the cheapest and a good mix of modern comforts and the classic feel.

I regularly lurk on rennlist but I don't have an account, I don't really have anything to contribute yet!

Gotcha. You did succeed in getting me hooked for sure. Like I said in my generational comparison of the 964, it is classic modernity.

I've been on Rennlist for almost a year now. Look for Karl_944; there will be two 25+ page threads from when I started my 944 search a year ago. It was said that they two of the longest lasting, most epic threads in a long time, the first jumping to 20 pages within the first month or so.

The second has stopped and hasn't been restarted since last month but that one is just as interesting.

Not bragging, but it was interesting. I say make an account and chat it up with the rest of the listers. They'll help you out with any questions and advice you need even if you don't have a car; ask me how I knew that. ;)

I'll definitely look those posts up tomorrow. I bookmarked the 964 comparison!

Yeah I may join rennlist anyways. At least to use the classifieds section, which is one of the best on any forum I've ever used.

I know it's late, but I have a ton of great RWB videos. Lemme know if you want the links.

It's funny, whenever I'm on my computer google knows I've been looking at Ferraris and Porsches, so cars.com ads for Rolls Royce's keep showing up as ads.

On the topic of über sedans, I raced an alpina B7 today! We both had our windows down, and he had BMWCCA plates so I complimented his car, and we decided to do a quick pull up to the speed limit.

It wasn't even close.

I would not mind rocking a RWB if I somehow had lots of money to blow. I'd like to see him work some magic on a 914 body with an N/A 993 motor tossed in.

I know there's TONS of wide body 914s in existance, but just about all of them have enlarged quarter panels that flow smoothly rather than the bolt-on look. The ones that do have bolt-ons just don't look as aggressive as RWB's works.

Now that summer is ending and cold weather is approaching (at least it is here haha!) the weeks are starting to get longer and longer.

Another thing I hate about winter is the fact that it's dark outside before 6 o'clock.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > AM3R
08/21/2014 at 21:10

Kinja'd!!!0

That's the worst part! When it gets dark at like 4:45

Can you get KILLER dealers on sports cars in the winter?

You should find some old convertible and buy it cheap

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > Manuél Ferrari
08/21/2014 at 21:18

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah the deals are always good in the winter, but at the same time the selection isn't as big because most private parties will wait until spring so they can get more money.

That's actually crossed my mind more than once. I'm gonna try to buy an S2000 this winter, I already found a pretty good candidate too! If it's around in December it'll be a nice little birthday gift for myself haha.

you don't even need millions!!

It's crazy, anyone who could afford to buy a decently optioned new 5 series could afford to RWB a 964! That's why I love them so much, it COULD happen one day.
